Troubleshooting AI underwriting misses and deal submission blockers

When AI Underwriting does not extract positions or financials from bank statements, or a deal won't submit because files or required fields are missing, run this checklist in order before contacting support. Most issues are resolved by checking the upload, the file placement, the statement type, and the deal fields, then re-running the AI workflow.

Quick recovery sequence

Follow these checks in order. Fix one item, then re-run the workflow before moving to the next.

  1. Check the upload finished. Confirm the files appear in the Bank Statements field and are not corrupted. If the upload was spinning or frozen, re-upload clean PDFs.

  2. Check file placement. Confirm the bank statement is attached to the Bank Statements field, not to a different document field.

  3. Confirm the statement type. AI Underwriting only processes checking account bank statements. It ignores savings statements, credit card statements, credit reports, loan documents, and other documents.

  4. Verify required deal fields. Open the Details and Criteria tabs and confirm business info, owner info, revenue, and balance are filled. Missing fields can block submission even after AI Underwriting succeeds.

  5. Re-run AI Underwriting. If you uploaded manually, open the deal, go to the Underwrite tab, and click AI Underwriting. If statements arrived through an application form integration, this runs automatically.

  6. Re-run AI Docs Check. In the Underwrite tab, click AI Docs Check. If the application and last 3 months of bank statements are present, the status updates to Ready to Submit.

Upload finished but files are missing or corrupted

When a bank statement upload appears frozen, the file may still be transferring. Do not interrupt it.

  • Wait for the spinning animation to finish before adding another file.

  • Do not reload the page while the upload is in progress.

  • Once the upload finishes, confirm the Edit button shows Done.

If the upload seemed to complete but the files are missing from the Bank Statements field, the PDFs may be corrupted or unreadable.

  • Check if Compress Statements in the Underwrite tab shows an errored status.

  • Remove the problematic files from the deal.

  • Re-upload clean, non-corrupted PDFs.

AI Underwriting returns no extraction

If the Underwrite tab shows no financials or positions after you run AI Underwriting, check file placement, file contents, and trigger method in this order. Fix one item at a time, then re-run the workflow.

  1. Check the file placement. Open the deal and confirm the bank statement is attached to the Bank Statements field, not to a different document field. If a checking statement was misfiled, move it into Bank Statements before you re-run AI Underwriting.

  2. Check the file contents. AI Underwriting only processes checking account bank statements. It ignores savings statements, credit card statements, credit reports, loan documents, applications, and other documents. Replace any non-checking file with the correct statement, then re-run AI Underwriting.

  3. Check the trigger method. AI Underwriting runs automatically only when statements arrive through an application form integration. If you uploaded statements manually inside MCA Pilot, open the deal, go to the Underwrite tab, and click AI Underwriting yourself.

  4. Re-run only after placement is fixed. Do not click AI Underwriting repeatedly on a misfiled document. Move the file into Bank Statements first, then run the workflow once.

Deal status stays incomplete after AI Docs Check

After you run AI Docs Check, look at the deal status:

  • If the application and the last 3 months of bank statements are present, the status updates to Ready to Submit.

  • If something is missing, the status updates to Missing Documents and the system writes what is missing.

To see the missing items, click the Notes button on the deal. The Documentation Check field shows a summary like Missing 2 of 4 required documents, and the Missing Documents field lists the specific items.

Submission fails because of missing or invalid fields

Some funders require specific fields before they accept a submission. If those fields are missing or invalid, the submission errors after it is sent.

To fix and resubmit:

  1. Open the deal and go to the Submissions tab.

  2. Click View error on the failed submission.

  3. Fix the missing or invalid fields in the Details and Criteria tabs.

  4. Click Save, then resubmit the deal.

Previously selected funders are preserved when a submission errors, so you usually do not need to re-select them. For the full field mapping, see How to Edit Deal Fields for API Submissions.

Positions are not extracted

AI Underwriting captures active positions. In the current version, Active and Total positions are treated as the same value.

  1. Confirm the uploaded files are checking account statements and are in the Bank Statements field.

  2. Re-run AI Underwriting after moving or replacing files.

  3. If the positions still do not appear, the model may not have detected them in the statement layout. Enter them manually so the deal can proceed to funder matching.

AI underwriting is still being improved. If the model consistently misses positions or financials for a specific bank or statement format, let support know so the workflow can be refined.

Still having issues?

If the checks above do not resolve the problem, contact support with:

  • The deal name

  • The bank or statement format

  • What you expected the AI to extract (positions, financials, or both)

  • What the deal status and Missing Documents fields show

  • Whether the statements were uploaded manually or through an application form integration

  • Any View error messages from failed submissions
